Spring is just around the corner and summer 2020 will be here before we know it. That means that consumers around the country have travel on their minds, and are making plans. Some trends are already emerging. Below, we’ll look at five of them.
1. Off The Beaten Track Travel

The desire to get away from the typical tourist hotspots and discover something different is still front of mind for many travellers. Our society is increasingly digital, consumption-driven and fast-paced; which is not going to change any time soon! That’s why more and more travellers are seeking trips that take them right out of their comfort zone and away from the hustle of everyday life.
2. Cruises

More people are lining up to take cruises. Within this particular travel niche there are additional trends emerging including: cheaper, faster, and better Internet, higher quality entertainment, better food, increased flexibility, and the Bahamas remains a very a hot destination.
“At Grand Caribbean Cruises, we have certainly seen a major shift in the industry,” says Jennifer Poole of Grand Caribbean Cruises. “Travelers are currently taking cruises in record numbers. While cruises used to be considered a luxury, today, the average family might actually be able to save money by opting for a cruise instead of a non-inclusive or non-packaged vacation. In the end, on a vacation, you don’t want to spend your time worrying about details like meals, transportation, and other overhead costs. With a cruise, you and your family get to COMPLETELY relax and take in the surroundings without irritating or anxiety-provoking distractions. I think the popularity of taking a cruise will continue to grow in 2020.”
3. Prioritize Pets

Always longed to take your pooch on a plane with you but been too intimidated by the process? Well, forget those travel woes next year, as 2020 will usher in pet-centric holidays like never before.
A whopping 49% of pet owners say they’d be willing to pay more to stay at an accommodation that's pet-friendly, while 42% say that they’d choose a destination based on whether they could or couldn’t take their pets.
So, what can we expect to see come the New Year? Look out for more animal-friendly options with accommodations offering dog day beds, pet spas (dog manicure, anyone?) and dedicated room service menus.
4. Traveling Via Technology

If you can’t step outside without first checking train times, route options or delays on an app, then technophiles will be wholly satisfied come the New Year.
According to Booking.com’s research of 22,000 travelers across 29 markets, six in 10 of us want technology to offer us a ‘wildcard’ with unexpected options to introduce them to something new when it comes to travel in 2020.
With almost half (46%) of us admitting to using an app to facilitate in booking hotels and trips in real-time while travelling, and 44% planning to use an app that allows them to pre-plan activities, it’s safe to say technology has never been more important when it comes to making trips around the globe.
What does that mean for 2020? Well, we'll be seeing more artificial intelligence affecting the way we conduct holiday research, with tailored suggestions of destinations and accommodations. And Airbnb's 'experiences' tab will be getting some traffic.
5. Space Travel

When it comes to traveling, we continue to push our boundaries and that includes space tourism. As a result, the travel industry and other companies will invest in tests with space travel on earth to make space travel possible. They meet the growing demand of consumers who want to take the big leap. 40% of travellers confirm that they think the prospect of space travel is fantastic, and would also consider this experience themselves (38%). Until space travel becomes reality, 60% of travellers opt for adventure below sea level.
