SeventySix Capital Invests in Play by Play Sports Broadcasting Camps

4/12/18

SeventySix Capital announced a strategic investment in Play by Play Sports Broadcasting Camps (SBC). This deal, led by Ryan Howard, former MLB superstar and Partner at SeventySix Capital, will enable SBC to expand their camp venues and offerings, develop next generation platforms, and teach the digital skills required to be successful in the future of sports media.

“So many people love sports, but think that it’s impossible to get into the sports broadcasting industry. That’s not the case – today,” said Howard, “There are now countless channels, social media platforms and live events – each needing broadcasters. At SBC, campers learn from top broadcasters, athletes and industry executives, setting them on the path to becoming a successful broadcaster.”

Jeremy Treatman and Steven Goldstein are the Co-CEOs of SBC, which is the nation’s top sports broadcasting camp for boys and girls in 9 major cities, including Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston and Atlanta. Treatman and Goldstein have inspired and trained thousands who are passionate about sports and broadcasting. Dozens of SBC’s alumni have become professional sportscasters on various networks including NBC, Scott Braun on MLB Network, Adam Lefkoe on Bleacher Report, Sarah Barshop on ESPN, Clayton Collier on ABC, and Dan Koob on CBS.

“We see this as a great opportunity because of the exponential growth of sports media rights in North America – valued at nearly $20 billion in 2017. Media networks like Facebook, Twitch and Whistle Sports are part of the massive disruption of the sports industry, creating more opportunities for sports broadcasters,” said Wayne Kimmel, Managing Partner at SeventySix Capital, “Ryan and I are excited to integrate our network of professional athletes, Olympic athletes and sports broadcasters, access to next generation technology, and sports tech startup companies into SBC’s offerings.

“Steven and I are excited to partner with SeventySix Capital and leverage their relationships to train future sports broadcasters. When we first started, there were only a few sports that were being broadcast. Now, there are more opportunities than ever, thanks to streams, podcasts, the emergence of esports and multitudes of new networks being created seemingly daily. The future is bright for our SBC campers,” said Treatman, who founded the camps.

“When kids come to our sports broadcasting camps around the country, they are taught by the top broadcasters, athletes and industry executives,” said Goldstein, “which gives them a real path to a career and, most importantly, they have a great time!”
